The Culturizm Editorial Team

Culturizm is a culture and ideas publication covering the contemporary moment across literature, design, and style. The articles here are researched and written by two editors who have been thinking about culture, professionally and personally, for most of their adult lives.

Mila Forsythe: Editor-in-Chief

Mila studied Comparative Literature at New York University and spent her twenties writing for independent culture publications before going fully freelance. She is based in Brooklyn. Her focus at Culturizm is the intellectual and literary side: what contemporary fiction means and why it matters, how genres evolve, how cultural movements shape the fields they touch.

Her writing follows a simple conviction: ideas should be accessible without being oversimplified. She uses examples from real works rather than invented hypotheticals, explains difficult concepts in plain terms, and has a particular allergy to the phrase “comprehensive guide.”

Byline coverage: Contemporary literature, fiction and genre analysis, cultural criticism, creative fields, writing craft.

Derek Vance: Style and Design Editor

Derek was raised between a mother who was an architect and a father with a vintage clothing obsession. That combination, he says, explains a lot. He is based in Chicago and covers the design and style side of Culturizm: interior aesthetics, menswear, and the cultural forces behind certain looks emerging when they do.

His angle is always the “why now” question. Not just what’s happening in interior design, but why ranch style is suddenly everywhere. Not just what men are wearing, but what that signals about where culture is heading. His pieces are analytical and opinionated, with a record of being early on trends that later became obvious.

Byline coverage: Interior design trends and aesthetics, contemporary menswear and styling, design history and cultural timing, pop culture and aesthetics.
